Painting in Acrylics / Drawing in Mixed Media
This course is designed for both beginners and experienced students. Students will begin their painting journey with a process that facilitates working in layers, where different skills can be gained with each layer – using a range of techniques. Students will learn how to create an underpainting using an image as a reference point to go beyond this image allowing for more possibilities to manifest in their work. Each student will find more solutions to their painting dilemmas. There will be different exercises that facilitate learning in mainly colour as well as tone, form, texture and composition. Students will learn more about paint consistencies using acrylic mediums and a range of tools. Students are taught how to capitalise on mistakes. Development of personal marks/style is a priority in this course. There will be an experimental part to the term where there is the option of drawing in various media/collage. Landscape, still life, portraiture and personal projects are subject matter.
“I endeavour to help students to relax into the painting process rather than focus on results. I aim to facilitate, in painting terms, an inner dialogue with the subconscious from where strong expressive work emerges.”

This is an open workshop where budding artists can expand and push beyond their painting boundaries into new territory. It is a workshop where participants can learn how to exaggerate colour and abstract/simplfy form in the landscape. They will be investigating the contours, the “lay of the land” using bold dynamic gestural marks and weaving colour through the surface in a loose fashion using gel and impasto mediums to achieve thick, buttery acrylic paint. Colour is of primary importance in this workshop.Tools will be large brushes, palette knives and credit cards (scrapers). On the second day we will be experimenting with collage and mixed media using a variety of subjects like still life, architectural forms, landscape or figures. .Beginners/advanced are all welcome
